Installation and Care Guide
FAQ (Installation tips and care)
Are your items handmade
Yes. Every piece is designed, laser cut, and finished in my small studio by me. Because each item is made in small batches, slight variation is normal and part of what makes each piece unique.
What are your products made from
Most items are made from premium acrylic. Some designs may also include wood or hardware depending on the product.
Switch plate and outlet cover installation
Before you install
Acrylic is durable, but it is rigid (it does not flex like plastic). The most important thing is avoiding pressure on the screw holes.
Quick checklist
-
Remove the old plate.
-
Check that the switch or outlet is fully screwed into the junction box.
-
Check the outlet or switch sits flush (not tilted).
-
Look at the junction box screw holes (misalignment is the most common cause of stress and cracking).
My junction box holes are slightly off. What should I do
This is very common, especially in older homes.
Tips that help
-
Start both screws first (thread them a few turns) before tightening either one.
-
Tighten slowly, alternating between screws (a little on one side, then the other).
-
Stop when the plate is secure (snug, not tight). Overtightening can crack acrylic.
Should the plate be perfectly flat against the wall
It should sit flat, but if your wall surface is uneven, do not force the plate to bend to match the wall. Snug is enough.
Can I use a power drill to install it
I do not recommend it. Hand tightening gives you better control and helps prevent overtightening.
What if the plate feels like it is bowing or pulling near the screws
Stop and loosen the screws. That’s a sign there’s pressure on the acrylic (often from misaligned junction box holes, a crooked device, or overtightening). Re-center the device if possible, then reinstall using the “start both screws first” method.
Clocks
Do you include a battery
No. The clock movement uses one AA battery and there is no cover.
Do I need to install the second hand
Yes. To protect it during shipping, the second hand is taped flat against the clock face.
How do I install the second hand
Gently remove the tape and lift the second hand off the clock face.
You’ll see a small center hole in the clock motor post. Carefully press the second hand straight down into the hole in the post.
Helpful tips
-
Use light pressure only (do not force it).
-
Make sure the second hand is not touching the hour or minute hands.
-
If needed, gently lift or adjust the hands so they are slightly separated and can move without rubbing.
Once installed, insert a AA battery and the clock should start running normally.
How do I hang the clock
The clock includes a wall hanger. Use a wall hook or nail appropriate for your wall type.
Care and cleaning
How do I clean acrylic
Use a soft microfiber cloth. If needed, use a little mild soap and water. Avoid harsh cleaners and alcohol based sprays, which can cloud acrylic over time.
Can acrylic scratch
Yes, like most glossy surfaces. Keep it away from abrasive sponges and rough surfaces.
